BEST GEAR EVER!! Our campsite at Tugrugiin Shiree, deep in the Mongolian Gobi, was decimated by an explosive sandstorm with 200km/h winds!! When it was all over, I was just relieved that my family and our crew were safe. And when we pulled my Canon gear from the carnage — caked in sand and soaked with rain — it seemed clear that everything was ruined. But the next day, after all my equipment had dried — and some serious cleaning had taken place — I was AMAZED that everything STILL WORKED!! I continued to shoot with this Canon gear all across Ömnögovi Province for the next 5 days…and everything performed PERFECTLY!! The weather sealing on the Canon EOS R5 and R6 bodies and the RF 15-35mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses is simply INCREDIBLE!! And although I wouldn’t recommend attempting any of this, in my 20+ years of shooting adventure-based travel and documentary photography across Asia and around the world, I’ve never witnessed anything as powerful as this “Gobi Tornado”...nor have I ever experienced camera equipment this durable.
