Stephanie Zubiri and I recently escaped somewhere quieter, travelling to Lagen, the freshly reimagined flagship of El Nido Resorts, to create a series of short social films centred around wellness, restoration and the gentle rhythm of island life.
Set between ancient limestone formations, dense tropical forest and the emerald waters of Bacuit Bay, Lagen feels intentionally removed from the usual noise. Not in the performative sense of luxury escape marketing, but in the way certain places quietly shift your internal pace the moment you arrive.
Our brief wasn’t to document a destination so much as capture a feeling.
The experience unfolded slowly — mornings shaped by movement and meditation, time in the water, healing treatments, long pauses between moments and that increasingly rare sense of having nowhere urgent to be.
What stood out most was the balance Lagen strikes between wilderness and comfort. The property feels deeply connected to its surroundings, with a distinctly Filipino warmth in the details — thoughtful design, natural materials, a sense of craft and spaces that feel considered without ever becoming over-designed.
There’s also an underlying sense of care here that goes beyond aesthetics. In a place as ecologically extraordinary as El Nido, that connection to nature carries a certain responsibility, and Lagen feels conscious of that relationship rather than simply borrowing the view.
For this collaboration, we created a hero reel alongside two shorter edits, each capturing a different rhythm of the experience — quiet introspection, golden hour over the bay, the textures of the island, movement through water and the sensory atmosphere that makes a place linger in your imagination.
In a world that constantly asks us to move faster, Lagen offered something quieter. A reminder that sometimes the most meaningful stories come not from chasing the next thing, but from slowing down long enough to actually feel where you are.
