I always enjoy hearing from my editorial clients when they’re looking for stock imagery to illustrate one of their upcoming features. It’s even better when they’re searching for a cover photograph.
This happened to me a few weeks ago when I received an email from the Creative Director at Travel + Leisure Magazine India & South Asia in Delhi. Her magazine was planning a cover story on Singapore and she needed a photograph to accompany the feature; I knew immediately which image I wanted to propose…
A couple of years ago I was fortunate enough to climb high atop the roof of the iconic 57-storey Marina Bay Sands Hotel, 194 metres (636 feet) in the sky, and shoot down onto the patio bar at Ku De Ta (now called Cé La Vi), just as night fell over Singapore. Working closely with the bar, as well as a handful of my model friends, to make this photograph, it was unfortunately never published anywhere (unless you count on the cover of my regular eNewsletter a couple of years ago) — so I was understandably eager for it to be chosen.
Happily, T+L loved the photograph and agreed to print it on the cover of their July 2015 issue. And the rest, as they say, is history.
