The home of Ken & Isa Mishuku,
founders of Mid-Century Manila,
is a testament to their shared passion
for the iconic design era.
The latest issue of Tatler Homes Philippines is dedicated to ‘Curated Spaces’ and in her Letter From the Editor, Stephanie Zubiri explores this concept within the context of ‘Limited Edition’. Focusing on individuals who have “decorated their homes as a poignant reflection of their own personal style…[and] people who are avid collectors and have an uncanny knack for soulfully curating spaces filled with impulse buys and objects they adore,” owners of vintage furniture platform Mid-Century Manila, Ken & Isa Mishuku, espouse this philosophy wholly.
This past August I was commissioned to visit Ken & Isa here in Manila, immersing myself in their mid-century modern (MCM) world and photographing their self-designed home brimming with beautiful furnishings by iconic designers Isamu Noguchi, Charles & Ray Eames, George Nelson, Alvar Aalto and more. Yet despite their exhaustive experience, the Mishukus don’t promise to be experts about interior design; instead they offered this sage piece of advice to aspiring collectors: “the true guide is to be mindful of your choices. You should get pieces that gel, that talk to each other and work together. They may not be the most expensive and iconic, but there is a certain magic that happens when you put the correct pieces together.”
