I have visited the magnificent ancient city of Angkor perhaps a dozen times, but this one morning that I spent exploring the jungle-covered ruins while being chauffeured in Victoria Angkor Resort’s 1931 Citroën C6 is an experience I’ll always remember.
My driver was an amazingly energetic (and photogenic) Khmer gentleman, and I made a number of pictures of him with his beautiful classic car throughout the morning’s adventures. Bayon sits at the centre of Angkor Thom, a walled city that served as the capital of the Khmer Empire, and its most distinctive feature is the number of gigantic stone faces carved in the many towers that rise out of the central peak of the temple.
This particular photograph of my chauffeur standing beside his vintage limousine affront the iconic Bayon — one of the most breathtaking religious masterpieces left standing in the world today — is one of my favourites: the early morning light is soft, the sky is powder blue, and the glorious temple is ours alone.
