DOCUMENTARY
The Chain Reaction Project (TCRP) is a non-profit philanthropic organization comprised of four women who search for unique sports- and adventure-themed opportunities to help change lives. TCRP seeks to find a cause, and have an effect. And from there, to grow the initiative and cause others to effect change together. TCRP’s journey began in August 2009 with the Tour de Timor, Timor-Leste’s inaugural 5-day, 450-kilometre mountain bike race across nine of the nation’s 13 districts. But the Tour de Timor was much more than a sporting challenge. It was symbolic of the struggle for positive change as this fledgling country seeks to find its feet. It was a means to reveal the beauty behind the scars that remain in one of Asia’s poorest nations. And it was an opportunity for TCRP to bring much-needed private and corporate donations to the people of Timor-Leste, many of whom struggle to meet their basic needs. Using the race as a platform, and harnessing the power of social networking and media, TCRP successfully raised awareness for Timor and more than USD$35K for HIAM-Health, a Dili-based malnutrition rehabilitation and education centre for parents and children.
